Skateshop Shootout

Friday December 7th 2007
Thanks to Josh Kalis for coming out to the event.

The DC skateboarding director, brand managers and embarked on a trip to freezing cold Detroit Michigan to host the first Skateshop Shootout at Landslide Skatepark. I had visited Detroit on past tours and it was usually during the summertime, but for some reason every time ago there with DC it's in the freezing called. Regardless, my experiences there where just as fun.

The day before the contest we cruised around the Detroit area checking out some skate shops and going and having an amazing stake dinner at an almost abandoned restaurant. There was no one on the streets of Greek Town because the weather was so *%$@ cold! Bob Reynolds coming from North Carolina was definitely not happy about the climate. After dinner we headed to the Greek Town Casino where I lost 100 dollars and so did Bob. Heavyset walked away with a 175 dollars and our man Bookworm was destroying the crap tables and walked away with over 300 dollars. I had never seen any body go on such a huge winning streak before. I definitely wish I were playing craps instead of Black Jack. In the casino they have live entertainment with a bunch of people singing and dancing on stage. In the bathroom we heard this old man saying under his breath "oh lord, that child can't sing". It was the funniest thing all night.

Brian and Bookworm organized this contest with the local skate shops from the Detroit metropolitan area. 7 teams with 4 skaters each entered to claim the rights to be the winner of the first Skateshop Shootout. The contest was broken down into 4 heats with one skater from each team skating for 10 minutes. The skaters were rated one through seven and after four heats the team with the least amount of points was the winner.

Welcome Bob Reynolds to the brand manager team!
